Leading Integrated Suicide Prevention Across Health Systems

Chaired the suicide learning collaborative at Providence Health & Services partnering across 7 states to advance consistent, research driven, evidence based suicide care. Advanced clinical standards across diverse care settings, and led a cultural shift in suicide care in healthcare, alligning clinical leaders to stregthen quality, safety, and measurable outcomes for depression and suicide.

Elevating Suicide Prevention Standards of Care

Led comprehensive review of best practices and standards of suicide care, developing evidence based guidelines for pediatric and adolescent populations in outpatient, inpatient and emergency department setttings across several states and implementing a train the trainer program for Home Health clinicans ensuring consistent, compassionate suicide care delivery for rural and underserved populations.

Transforming Primary Care Suicide Prevention

Directed a pilot clinical initiative to address a suicide care gap in primary care. Created a team-based protocol aligned with Joint Commission standards and embedded evidence-based practices into routine visits. Following pilot success, expanded implementation to thousands of clinics and hundreds of hospitals across multiple states strengthening safety, reliability, patient outcomes.

Optimizing EHR Suicide Risk workflow & Intervention Tools

Served as subject matter expert and clinical sponsor for development of an EHR-integrated safety planning tool with lethal means counseling. Partnered on automated depression screening and suicide risk assessment workflows within the EHR and developed HealthStream trainings to support clinician adoption and best-practice implementation.

Grant Funded Suicide Care

Secured foundation, state and federal funding-including Providence Wellbeing Trust, Oregon Health Authority and Zero Suicide/SAMHSA- to advance evidence based suicide care across primary and specialty clinics, including neurology, oncology, acute heart failure, anticoagulation, and women’s health, expanding access, strengthening integration, and improving patient safety across diverse medical settings.

Suicide Prevention Trainings & Workshops

Delivered educational training and interactive workshops on suicide prevention and care, including continuing education for healthcare professionals. Served as lead faculty for 2 eight-part Project ECHO series focused on suicide prevention in primary care, equipping clinicians with practical, evidence-based strategies to assess risk and engage in safety planning and lethal means counseling.
